This study was carried out to risk assessment of cadmium, lead, and inorganic arsenic contamination in agricultural products at abandoned mine area in 25 crops. The 36 typical investigation sites located in Gyeongbuk provincial area were selected by considering the heavy metal levels, that had been known that the amount of the heavy metals exceeded the contamination level based on the previous survey.
Cadmium, lead, and total arsenic were determined using microwave device and ICP-MS. Inorganic arsenic was determined by HPLC-ICP-MS. The limit of quantification for heavy metals were Cd 0.59 ug/kg, Pb 0.42 ug/kg, T-As 0.55 ug/kg, and I-As[sum of As3+ 1.74 ug/kg and As5+ 2.25 ug/kg], respectively. The contents of Cd were N.D.-0.958 mg/kg, Pb were N.D.-0.227 mg/kg, and I-As(only rice) was 0.082 mg/kg in agricultural products.
It requires to consider the critical levels of heavy metals agricultural products due to unexpectedly high levels in few places while amount of heavy metals in the samples were relatively low in most areas.
